India
offers every kind, beginner to persistent adrenalin junkie, every type of adventure
sports ranging from rock climbing to trekking to river rafting to safaris and
even hot air ballooning.
A
popular destination for adventure sports is Gulmarg, known to house Asia’s
famous heli-skiing resort. Open from mid-December to mid-April, Gulmarg, also
known as the heartland of winter sports in India, promises its visitors a
sublime experience.
Another
adventure sport that can be explored in India includes mountain biking in
Ladakh. The journey includes some of the highest passes; Rohtang La, Baralacha
La, Lachlung La and Tanglang La and the Khardung La. Other related adventure
sports destinations include Zanskar, the most isolated valley in the trans-Himalayan
range. It offers deep gorges, high-rise mountains, camping alongside streams,
spectacular monasteries and dramatic landscapes. Darjeeling is another popular
location for mountaineering and offers some of the most stunning and difficult
climbing points at the Karakoram Range and Singalila Ridge.
In
south India, tourists can explore Scuba Diving amongst a host of other water
sports at Andaman Islands. Swim with Hammerhead sharks and other fishes such as
Nurse and Leopard sharks, Grey and Whitetip. For more water sports, Rishikesh
is best enjoyed between November and March for river rafting. Environmentally
friendly camps that allow only tents, gas lanterns, and sandpits make this
experience a very rustic one indeed!
Other
adventure sports in India
include Forest Trails at Jim Corbett National Park, Kaziranga National Park and
Periyar National Park; Paragliding at Manali, Camel Safaris in Bikaner, Fishing
at Cauvery Fishing Camp, and Camping at Kabini River Lodge Camps.
